The Health and Care Ambassador Event on the 24th June, 2026 highlighted the impact that happens when employers, educators, and ambassadors come together with a shared focus on inspiring future careers in health and care.
There was a real energy in the room from the start, with conversations flowing, people connecting, and a clear sense that everyone was there for the same reason: to open doors for young people and show what a career in the sector can look like.
Inspiring voices on the day
We heard from a brilliant group of speakers who each brought something different, but equally powerful, to the discussion.
Sharon Stead opened with a warm welcome and shared updates on the Health & Care Ambassador Programme and the difference it is already making across the sector.
Lee Douglas spoke about the importance of employer engagement and how vital it is in helping young people explore their career options and feel confident about their next steps.
Bethany Holness shared her personal journey as an ambassador, offering a genuine insight into her experiences and what inspired her to work in health and care.
Steve Hoey and Helena Yeadon from Healing Academy talked about the value of strong partnerships between education and employers, and how working together helps prepare young people for real opportunities in the workplace.
Behind the scenes support
A big thank you goes to the People and Skills Pledge Team, who worked hard behind the scenes to make the event happen. Their support, organisation, and attention to detail ensured everything ran smoothly and allowed the focus to stay on the conversations and connections in the room.
Growing interest in the Ambassador Programme
One of the most encouraging parts of the day was the level of interest in becoming Health & Care Ambassadors. It was fantastic to see so many people keen to get involved and support the next generation.
Sharing real stories that make a difference
A key message that came through strongly throughout the event was how powerful it is when people share their real stories and experiences. It is these moments that help young people see what is possible and understand the wide range of careers available in health and care.
Working together like this is not just about talking about the future workforce, it is about actively shaping it and making sure young people feel inspired, supported, and ready to take their next steps.
